Hours:  Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm year round. 

Collection  

The Visual Resouce Center provides images and other visual resource material for teaching and learning in the Department of Art and Art History.  The collection includes:  

  • close to 200,000 35mm slides
  • lantern slides
  • art and art history books
  • dvd's and vhs tapes
  • study prints (list)

All items can be loaned for up to 2 months (possibly longer under special circumstances) to staff and students in the Art and Art History Department.

Services 

The Visual Resources Center is open to anyone for research and study. There are two public computers available for internet browsing (they are not computer clusters) in the foyer area in front of room A-205E. The VRC has Wi-Fi, and you are welcome to bring in and work on your laptop. There is also a light table set-up for slide browsing. The center is equipped for scanning and copy photography and can digitize slides, books, and small art works, as well as put video in the correct format for exporting to Blackboard. Please fill out the service request form or contact the Visual Resources Librarian for more information.

The Visual Resources Librarian is available to help with imaging and digitizing, presenting and presentation software, and art and art history research and referencing. The Librarian is also available for classroom presentations about referencing, ARTstor, image research, visual literacy, or other special subjects. You can either visit her in the Visual Resource Center or contact her to schedule an appointment.

Equipment 

The Visual Resources Center has audiovisual and computer equipment for Art and Art History faculty and student use. Please see or contact the Visual Resources Librarian about checking out equipment. Equipment available:

  • 35mm slide projectors
  • portable light tables and slide viewers
  • Mac laptop for classroom presentations (instructors only)
  • digital projector (instructors only)
  • portable projection screen
  • equipment carts
  • Mac VGA adaptors
  • VHS and DVD players (and accompanying projector)
  • blank CD’s & DVD’s
  • TV

 

Work-study Jobs 

All jobs as Visual Resource Assistants are through the University's Federal Work-Study Program. You must have a work-study award in order to be considered for any of the available positions. Some of the responsibilities include projecting slides in art history classes, digitizing slides, filing slides, data entry, photo editing. Please contact the Visual Resources Librarian for more information.

Fellowship in the VRC 

Each year the VRC works with the Department of Art & Art History to select a candidate for the Visual Resource Center Fellowship. Applicants must be a full-time undergraduate art major (art history, studio, or fine art) with a minimum 2.8 gpa. The fellowship student works 15 hrs/week (225 hrs/semester) in exchange for in-state tuition. The selection is made in April for the following academic year. For a description of the process and requirements for the fellowship position, please contact the VRC.

Future Developments 

The VRC is in the process of digitizing its slide collection, and is working on building a database that will be accessible to UNH staff and students.
